Riding the Waves of the 2024 Tableau Conference
Last year I wrote a recap story about my experience at Tableau Conference 2023. It ended up being my most read story to date. The goal in sharing my perspective was to both synthesize (and make sense of) what I had seen and to share it with others.
So, as the other story goes, we’re just over a week removed from the 2024 Tableau Conference. So what did I learn, what are the takeaways, and where do we go from here?
First let’s talk ambiance and the scene. This year the conference took place in San Diego, CA. A gorgeous, light, and airy conference center located in a bay and marina area of San Diego. A glass structure with vast mezzanines, visibility of the eclectic and lively Gaslight district, views of the bay, and plenty of vertical space to think. A huge departure from the recent dungeons of Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Moreover, Salesforce, the mothership of Tableau, prides itself on sustainability practices and those were visible throughout.
I had the privilege of attending Dreamforce in San Francisco, CA in 2023, so I have some sense of what to expect from them. The most notable practices I want to applaud Salesforce/Tableau for are: healthy, inclusive, and environmentally conscious meals (no beef, all major dietary preferences incorporated, minimal food waste), reduced waste (eg: sparse free swag/merch…
